Oni Press’ Space Horror ‘Rogue Planet’ to launch in April – The Hollywood Reporter
For most people, the very idea of a space-wandering planet filled with all manner of treasure and equal or even greater danger would be a pretty big sign to stay away. For the cast of Oni Press’s upcoming sci-fi series Rogue planet, quite the opposite, which could be a decision they will eventually regret … if they live long enough.
The series follows the crew of the rescue ship Cortes as they pursue Lonely Orphan, the “rogue planet” of the project’s title – a world without a star system of its own. The crew are convinced that the planet holds a significantly large payload waiting to be discovered, not knowing exactly what awaits to protect it. (Oni’s helpful tease about what this is? “Most mind-numbing horrors imaginable.” So, nothing fun, then.)
“Rogue planet is a book I’ve been working on for a while, a sci-fi horror story that really delves into my roots as a horror fan, ”co-creator Cullen Bunn said in a statement Wednesday. “I remember where I was sitting when I first wrote the title – I was having coffee with my pal and frequent contributor Brian Hurtt at Powell’s Books – and I couldn’t help but think of the possibilities. I spent time brainstorming and had a scary idea that I absolutely loved.
Bunn’s co-creator on the series is Justice League of America and Wolverine: Infinity Watch artist Andy McDonald.
“I’ve been a fan of his work for so long,” Bunn explained. “He really sold the hostility of the setting, the horror of horrors our intrepid heroes encounter. Then [colorist] pseudo [Filardi] took Andy’s pages and told stories with the colors. I can’t wait for readers to see this book. There are terrors to be discovered and mysteries to be revealed, if you have the courage. “
McDonald added that the series “was an incredible opportunity for me” but also “the most difficult project to work on due to episodes of frightening paralysis induced by the countless horrors that Cullen’s spectacularly spooky script commissioned me to do. to face and draw. Faithful champion of color and fearless comic book comrade, Nick Filardi was there to bring gorgeous and horribly vivid color to a project I was too fear-panicked to draw without giving it a shot. eye through a shaking hand!
Rogue planet is set to launch in comic book stores and digitally on April 1. Read on for an exclusive preview of the first issue.
