Mysterious Planet 9 “is a rogue world trapped by our solar system” that may contain alien life

A MYSTERY ice planet that is so large it tilts our entire solar system may be a rogue world captured by the gravitational pull of our Sun.

Planet 9 is believed to be 15 times larger than Earth and is responsible for the strange behavior of planets near us.

Scientists suspect the hypothetical planet disrupts the orbit of icy objects and could one day destroy Earth.

Although invisible to the naked eye, it can be spotted using advanced telescopes.

But now some are claiming the planet is a lonely world that’s been caught up in our solar system – sparking hopes it could harbor extraterrestrial life.

New Mexico State University said it was likely a “rogue planet” at a news conference.

James Vesper, an undergraduate student at the University, said at the 229th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Grapevine, Texas: “It is very plausible” that Planet Nine is a captured thief, a world that navigates in space without being attached to a star.

The discovery of Planet 9 was hailed as a great feat for science, but came with a fatal warning.

The icy giant could destroy the solar system by causing a devastating “dance of death”, astronomers have warned.

It could one day rush through our solar system, sending planets “freaking out” into space or plunging into the Sun.

Dr Dimitri Veras from the Department of Physics said: “The existence of a distant massive planet could fundamentally change the fate of the solar system.

“The fate of the solar system would depend on the mass and orbital properties of Planet Nine, if it exists.”

Luckily for us, humanity has about seven billion years to prepare for this dire eventuality, which will take place when the Sun begins to die.
